Finding a Home and a "Buzz" in Nottingham: Bea’s Story
When 31-year-old Bea moved from the south of England to Nottingham, she was facing two major challenges: settling into a brand-new city and managing long-term struggles with her mental health and anxiety.
Searching for a way to "switch her brain off" and feel more connected to her new home, she decided to join Runspire’s Couch to 5K (C25K) program
The Challenge: Starting Over
Before joining, Bea described herself as "quite inactive" regarding cardio, occasionally doing weights but feeling generally unfit. Moving so far away from home can be isolating, and Bea was looking for a way to feel less lonely while improving her well-being

The Transformation: More Than Just Running
Even though Bea joined the program halfway through, she was immediately met with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere that helped her feel settled in the area.
-
Mental Clarity: Bea found that running provided a vital "buzz" that helped her manage anxiety and gave her a sense of accomplishment.
-
Body Positivity: One of the most profound impacts was on her self-image. After struggling with body image issues in the past, the program made her feel proud of what her body can do and grateful for its strength.
-
Social Connection: What started as an exercise class quickly became the "highlight of her week". It provided her with a community of friends with similar interests, effectively tackling the loneliness of moving to a new place

The Big Milestones
Bea didn't just start running; she thrived.
-
Graduation: She successfully completed the full 5K course.
-
The Santa Run: Her proudest moment so far was completing the Santa Run, a challenging and hilly route that proved just how much her fitness had improved.
"It’s made me feel like I’ve got a group of friends... it’s made me feel less lonely." — Bea
Bea’s Advice: Just Give it a Go!
For anyone sitting on the fence or feeling like 5K is too daunting, Bea offers these encouraging words:
-
It’s Accessible for Everyone: You can go as slow or as fast as you want. Even a "shuffly walk" still covers the distance.
-
It Breaks it Down: A 5K can seem like a long way, but the program breaks it into manageable steps. Before you know it, you’re doing it.
-
You Won't Know Until You Try: "You don’t know if you like things unless you try it"
